Buda City Council approved two resolutions for two development petitions for annexation on March 5, which set the schedule for public hearings to take place.

What it means

Annexation is the process of bringing property into the city limits. After the adoption of a resolution, the city is expected to hold two public hearings and two ordinance readings to approve the voluntary annexation.

The background

The first petition for annexation is for approximately 98.9 acres of land between Old Black Colony Road and Cole Springs Road, according to agenda documents. The proposed development consists of 235 homes and will reconstruct and realign Cole Springs Road.

The project will be able to generate taxes for the city of Buda if it is annexed into city limits.

The second petition for annexation is for roughly 42 acres of land located northwest of the FM 1626 and Cole Springs Road intersection, according to agenda documents. The proposed project is for 114,500 square feet of commercial space and 600 multifamily units. The project will also extend Cole Springs Road and provide an additional north/south road west of FM 1626.

If annexed and developed, the property would increase property and sales tax collections to the city.

What’s next?

A public hearing for each project will be held at 6 p.m. on April 2 at Buda City Hall.
