The city of Kyle is looking to purchase three buildings near the downtown area.

The overview

Kyle City Council authorized City Manager Bryan Langley to execute any contracts necessary to purchase of the following properties Nov. 20:
  • Cash Box Pawn Shop
  • Kyle Automotive Center
  • Kyle Carwash
The council approved a maximum dollar amount not to exceed $3.4 million for the purchase of the three properties. The final purchase prices for each property will be available upon closing of the properties, according to Director of Communications Rachel Sonnier.

Looking ahead

Mayor Travis Mitchell said once the city finalizes the purchase of these additional lots, the city will have the "building blocks" to revitalize downtown.

"The goal and intent is once we're able to close on these additional lots, we will hire someone to help us determine the best configuration for new vertical development downtown including a parking garage," Mitchell said.

After acquiring these lots and building a parking garage, the city is looking to use the remainder of land for development.

"We will be looking to partner with the private sector to put together a package where we have control of the end user, especially in the retail, but where we can have assurances of a historic and high quality aesthetic—something that matches the downtown look and feel but something that also brings about new retail spaces that small businesses can occupy," Mitchell said.
