Early voting results posted Dec. 14 show candidate Marc McKinney leading in the runoff race for Kyle City Council, District 5, with 70.50% of votes, or 356 ballots.

His opponent, Melisa Medina, has received 29.50% of votes, or 149 ballots.

How we got here

Runoff elections are held when candidates do not meet the majority vote requirement of 50% plus one vote.

During the Nov. 5 general election, Medina received 37.97% of votes, or 1,169 ballots. McKinney received 35.3% of votes or 1,087 ballots, according to official voting results. The third candidate in the Nov. 5 election, Courtney Goza, received 27.04% of votes and did not qualify for the runoff.
