In her bid for reelection, incumbent Jane Hughson secured a win in the Nov. 5 general election against challenger Juan Miguel Arredondo, according to unofficial voting results.
- Hughson received 58.98% of votes, or 14,128 ballots.
- Arredondo received 41.02% of votes, or 9,825 ballots.
In a Facebook post, Arredondo said his campaign was powered by a "diverse coalition" of neighbors from all backgrounds, experiences and perspectives who came together with a shared vision for San Marcos.
"Thank you for every contribution, every door knocked, every message sent, and every ounce of effort you put into this campaign. I look forward to completing my term on the school board and continuing to serve this community that means so much to me. San Marcos, the work continues, and I’m honored to be on this path with you," the post states.

- Hughson has received 59.28% of votes, or 13,116 votes.
- Arredondo has received 40.72% of votes, or 9,011 votes.

- Hughson has received 60.40% of votes, or 11,485 ballots.
- Arredondo has received 39.60% of votes, or 7,529 ballots.
Hughson—who was first elected in November 2018—is seeking reelection for a fourth term. Arredondo ran for the mayoral seat in 2020 and the two candidates entered into a runoff election that year.
Hughson won the runoff election, with 65.95% of votes or 2,411 ballots. Arredondo received 34.05% of votes, or 1,245 ballots, according to previous reporting by Community Impact.
What else?
In early voting, there were 19,014 ballots cast citywide towards the mayoral election.
Polls closed at 7 p.m., although voters who were in line at 7 p.m. were still able to cast ballots.
