The San Marcos CISD board of trustees voted unanimously to cancel the election due to only two people applying for the open at-large positions during their regular meeting March 18.

The details

Incumbent and current board President Anne Halsey and Juan Miguel Arredondo, who has previous experience on the board, were the lone applicants for the at-large positions.

“There are two at-large trustee positions open this spring, and only two people filed for them. Thus, alleviating the need for a May election this cycle, so we're canceling that and saving the attending taxpayer dollars,” Halsey said.

Mari Salmi, the second current at-large trustee, will be leaving the board at the end of her term. Halsey and Arredondo’s three-year terms for the at-large trustee positions will begin in May.

The background

The board originally approved the election during their Jan. 16 board meeting and accepted applications for the positions until Feb. 16.
