With all precincts reporting May 6, Jessica Cain is San Marcos CISD’s newest member on the board of trustees alongside incumbent Margie T. Villalpondo.
Cain won her District 1 seat with 59.47% of the vote; Philip Muzzy trailed behind her with 40.53%.
Cain said she was “thrilled” to be the trustee elect for District 1.
“I’m really excited to see how I can best serve the community, and I’m looking forward to meeting more people and hearing their concerns and their joys about how the district is doing and what we can do to continue to be better,” Cain said.
Although he was disappointed, Muzzy said it was a great race.
“I congratulate Jessica Cain, and I look forward to maybe taking a shot at it later on down the road,” Muzzy said.
Villalpondo won with 74.5% with Carswell trailing behind her with 25.6%.
Not only was Villalpondo thrilled that all four SMCISD bond proposals had been approved, but she was also grateful to all of the voters and supporters that endorsed her and helped her throughout her campaign.
“I am extremely thankful to the voters that have confidence in my role as a SMCISD school board member and that they have re-elected me. I look forward to continuing my service with SMCISD and working alongside my fellow school board members,” Villalpondo told Community Impact in an email.
Carswell said he wished Villalpondo the best.
“I know her heart's in the right place,” he said. “I do think some change would be good, but that's just my opinion. We'll see what happens in the future.”
