Texas State University officials held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new 81,600-square-foot academic building—named Esperanza Hall—at its Round Rock campus on Dec. 4.

Did you know?

This is the first new academic building to be constructed at the Round Rock campus since Willow Hall’s opening in 2018, according to a news release.

The setup

Texas State University President Kelly Damphousse said funds from the 2024 Texas Legislative cycle helped the university plan and construct the new building.

“With those funds, we are able to meet the increasing demands at our Round Rock campus for quality higher education opportunities in Williamson County,” Damphousse said in the news release.

Damphousse said he also wants to increase enrollment at the university’s Round Rock location to 10,000 students by 2030, and Esperanza Hall will help that effort.

“Texas State Round Rock is poised to become the third largest college campus in the Austin metropolitan area. However, to meet our enrollment goal, there is a need for additional space for classrooms, study areas and lounges so that our students can be successful here,” Damphousse said in the release.

BGK Architects and Joeris Construction are designing and constructing the project, which costs $52.4 million. Esperanza Hall will have a tiered lecture hall, lounge area and conference room as well as general classrooms and study spaces, according to the news release.

The project is slated to be completed in July 2026, according to the university's website.
