Kyle City Council members voted to extend the mayor’s order to close day care facilities and continue additional sanitation measures at gas stations at an April 3 meeting in an effort to combat the coronavirus outbreak.

The mandate by the Mayor Travis Mitchell will remain in effect until April 30.

Day care facilities will remain closed, and gas stations within city limits will still be required to have hand sanitation stations at at least one entrance and limit the number of people in the building. Gas stations are required to enforce distance requirements of 6 feet, and those that fail to comply will be penalized with a fine of no more than $2,000.

Though Gov. Greg Abbott issued an executive order that implements essential service protocols across the state of Texas, cities still have the ability to impose more strict standards as long as it does not impose with the governor’s executive order.
