One homeowner so far has agreed to the city of Kyle's offer to purchase his home to help make way for the construction of a future road.

Kyle City Council approved a resolution authorizing the city manager to execute a memorandum of agreement, or MOA, and any other necessary documents to finalize the purchase of Lot 41 in the Quail Ridge subdivision on Jan. 2.

The background

City staff began the acquisition process for six properties in the Quail Ridge neighborhood for the construction of a new road, named South Goforth Road, back in May. According to agenda documents, the cost will be paid for by the developer, Meritage Homes of Texas, LLC. Council approved an initial total offer of $1,759,000 for the acquisition and relocation of the affected landowners in November.

The details

Stanley Morris, who likes to go by Stan, is the affected resident who has agreed to settle with the city’s initial offer of $245,000 for the acquisition of his home, according to the MOA. Morris has lived in his home for 30 years and said he loves Kyle's hospital and H-E-B but was not happy with the traffic.

He also had warned his other neighbors they could be next.

“I think they’ll knock out this whole subdivision in the future,” Morris told Community Impact.
