Truly Pure Refillery, a locally owned refill shop located at 331 W. Hopkins St., San Marcos, celebrated the grand opening of its newly renovated Truly Pure Craft Bar on June 10.

The shop, which is owned and operated by the McGarvey family, is the first refillery shop in Texas and aims to reduce single-use plastics by encouraging people to bring a clean, dry container; weigh it; refill it with hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, etc. from the store; weigh it again; and then pay.

Truly Pure Refillery offers all-natural, nontoxic products, including high-quality skin care products, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, laundry detergent, dish soap, bath salts and more.

Part-owner Karli McGarvey said they strive to have "clean" products.

"Everything [is] nontoxic, clean ingredients, no greenwashing," McGarvey said.

According to McGarvey, greenwashing is a term used for when products claim to be "all natural," but the ingredient list reveals chemicals.

The McGarveys renovated the storage room to make it the Truly Pure Craft Bar. Customers can select a recipe from a recipe book and create bath bombs, sugar scrubs and room sprays.

"Customers can come do walk-ins, kids birthday parties, couples night out, ladies night out or employee appreciation parties," part-owner Jimmy McGarvey said.

The renovations also include a variety of Kombucha on-tap from from Buddha’s Brew, an Austin-based Kombucha company.
