The overview
Segments 2 and 3 of Kenney Fort Boulevard includes a six-lane divided roadway and traffic signal at the Gattis School Drive intersection.
The completion of this portion of the roadway comes after the project ran into material and labor issues during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was originally scheduled to be done in March 2023.
“The journey to completing this extension wasn’t without its challenges, and our staff worked closely with the contractors, staying engaged and persistent to ensure the project was completed successfully without further delay,” Round Rock Mayor Craig Morgan said in a press release. “We’re excited to deliver a new roadway that is going to provide significant relief for our residents, especially as we embark on other major projects to improve connectivity and capacity in our community.”
What else?
The project, which is meant to one day offer an alternative to I-35 and connect Round Rock with Georgetown and Pflugerville, includes the installation of a new pipeline to expand the city’s water reuse program to serve new and existing developments in the area. It also features sidewalks and shared-use paths to connect nearby neighborhoods to the Brushy Creek Trail System and Old Settlers Park.
Segments 5 and 6 of Kenney Fort Boulevard—to connect Old Settlers Boulevard to University Boulevard—are in the design phase. Construction is expected to begin in 2026.
