Roads are a high priority in Round Rock—78% of residents included in the city's biennial survey said traffic was their most important concern. Here are the five transportation stories from 2022 that most appealed to readers.

1. TxDOT opens eastbound RM 620 overpass in Round Rock

TxDOT announced the opening of a newly constructed piece of road infrastructure at 5 a.m. Dec. 15, that would have allowed drivers to bypass any conflicts with the Union Pacific Corp. railroad line that runs perpendicular to RM 620. However, TXDoT released an update later that day announcing that the opening had been delayed until after the new year.

2. TxTag rolls out new website to upgrade customer service features, streamline bill paying

After years of customers reporting issues, TxTag launched a new website with upgraded customer service features to make bill paying easier. TxTag, which is operated by the Texas Department of Transportation, is an electronic toll-collecting system. The new system was rolled out in early 2021.


3. These road projects will improve connectivity throughout Round Rock

This story included status updates on projects to increase connectivity in the city of Round Rock, such as additional sidewalks, turn lanes and lane widening.

4. RM 620 construction to limit eastbound driveway access to Market at Round Rock through October

The closure of the driveway began July 15 and ended Oct. 31. The shopping center is anchored by Sprout's Farmer's Market and features several retail, dining and service businesses. This closure was part of an ongoing project to enhance RM 620 in Round Rock.
