The Round Rock City Council approved a $74,047.92 engineering services agreement with Walker Partners LLC for the replacement of about 1,500 linear feet of pipe that Utilities Director Michael Thane described as “suspect.”

The pipe is part of the Brushy Creek Regional Utility Authority that experienced a pipe failure on an existing 36-inch water line in Lake Travis in December 2020. Thane said during a Feb. 22 packet briefing that during an underwater inspection of the rest of the pipe, this 1,500 feet of “suspect” pipe was found to have been installed improperly and has multiple potential failure points.

Under the agreement approved by council, Walker Partners will take on project management, design, agency, stakeholder coordination, land acquisition and special services.

The actual project will involve constructing a parallel pipeline along that existing 1,500 feet of pipe to supply BCRUA customers with water until the deep water intake is completed.

The BCRUA is a partnership between Leander, Cedar Park and Round Rock. The total cost of the contract is $277,645, with Round Rock’s portion representing 26.67%.
