What you need to know
RRISD celebrated its newest facility, the Early College High School, on Jan. 14.
About the project
Funded by a combination of 2018 and 2024 bonds, the campus will provide a central building for the district's Early College High School. Prior to its construction, students attended class in portables on the Austin Community College's Round Rock campus. Students attending the campus take both high school and college-level courses and can potentially graduate with an associate's degree.
The facility cost around $31 million to build, per a release from the district's bond management firm, HPM.
Remember this?
In 2023, RRISD trustees approved agreements with ACC, including a ground lease for 2.2 acres on campus, and the use of 2018 bond funds for the design and construction of a campus to house the high school.
The district will lease the property from ACC for 50 years, with a price tag of $6 million to be paid over a 20-year period at a 4% annual interest rate, RRISD's Chief Financial Officer Dennis Covington said.
