Round Rock ISD is close to wrapping up a full replacement of its bus fleet, the district announced in July.

The district provided an update to the community via its website July 3, stating that RRISD's transportation department is in the "final stages" of replacing its fleet of 65 buses using 2024 bond funds.
Why now?
The replacement comes as a new law requires all school buses to have three-point seatbelts by September 2029. The mandate comes from Senate Bill 546, approved during the state's 2025 legislative session.
"Safety is always the most important thing," RRISD Transportation Director Tina Fausett said in the announcement video. "Because of the new law ... all school buses will have to have three-point seatbelts. We're really excited about the new buses. They have a lot of extras on them."

How we got here
In 2024, Round Rock voters passed $932 million in proposed bond projects. Proposition A, which focuses $798.3 million in investments on campus infrastructure improvements, additions and renovations, also covers just over $10 million in school buses to fully replace the district's school bus fleet.
