Round Rock residents have a new way to get around as the city's on-demand mobility service Round Rock Rides launched June 26.

The big picture

City officials approved the $6.25 million contract with Austin-based zTrip in March, replacing its previous curb-to-curb paratransit services. While all riders are able to use the service, only paratransit riders will receive curb-to-curb service. All other riders will be able to use the point-to-point service, which operates similarly to bus stops using designated system pickup and drop-off spots. The city will continue to offer bus service through its partnership with CapMetro, and route changes implemented in January will remain.

The overview

Riders will need to register with zTrip before booking rides, Round Rock Transit Coordinator Edna Johnson said in March. Once registered, riders will book by phone call, using the service's website or through the zTrip app. Each individual rider must register and pay fare to use the service, but there is no limit on party size outside of the physical constraints of the vehicle.

Rides can be scheduled up to seven days in advance, with a minimum of 30 minutes notice.
