New data from the Round Rock Public Library show patronage of some digital collection services increased by 50% or more year-over-year in February.
The library contracts with online services like Overdrive, Hoopla and Freegal Music to provide access to the library's digital catalog for patrons who would rather read or listen to e-books and audiobooks, as well as music streaming services from the latter.
In the year between February 2022 and February 2023, the number of library patrons using Overdrive, a service which allows users to check out e-books and digital audiobooks, saw the number of patrons using the service jump 134% from 4,856 to 11,364.
Similarly, the new library building saw over 60,195 visitors in its first month of operation, with 73,867 items being checked out. During that time, an average of 89 new patrons signed up for library cards, compared to the average of 27 per day sustained over the last two years, according to the city. Weekday visits also saw increases of 29% compared to the previous year, as Saturday visits increased by 48%, and Sunday visits jumped by 49%.
