Opening weekend for the Round Rock Public Library drew over 11,000 visitors, according to Library Director Michelle Cervantes.

The city held a grand opening Jan. 28 of the new library located at 200 E. Liberty Ave. Here are some stats about the opening weekend of the new facility:
  • The grand opening event drew 7,403 visitors.
  • The library issued 717 new library cards.
  • Patrons checked out 4,258 items checked out.
  • More than 3,700 visitors came Jan. 29 to see the $37.4 million library.
The new structure, which was partially funded through the 2013 bond election, features:
  • conference and classroom space;
  • outdoor amenities, including a Discovery Garden and labyrinth;
  • a new home for Rocksssanne, the library pet python;
  • quiet study spaces;
  • children's story time rooms; and
  • a public courtyard.
The new library was designed by PGAL and took just over 19 months to construct. A new programming calendar including library events and groups will be released in March, Cervantes told Community Impact.

The former library, known as the Robert G. and Helen Griffith Public Library, will be remodeled to house the Round Rock Chamber and other city offices, according to city staff, following the relocation of the historic Palm House, the chamber's current home.
