The National Weather Service placed several Central Texas counties, including Williamson County, under a severe winter storm warning around 1 p.m. Jan. 30 that is in effect until 6 a.m. Feb. 2. The warning predicts ice accumulation up to three-quarters of an inch may be possible in the Hill Country and Austin metro area, with possible power outages and hazardous travel. Those who must travel while this warning is in place are encouraged to bring flashlights, food and water in case of an emergency. Nonemergency travel is discouraged, according to the warning.
Facility closures and hazardous road conditions will delay some city services. For example, fixed route and paratransit bus services will not run Feb. 1, excepting necessary trips for treatment such as dialysis, according to the city.
Residential garbage and recycling pickup will have a delayed schedule, which is subject to change should conditions worsen:
- Normal Jan. 31 pickups will be delayed to Feb. 2.
- Feb. 1 pickups will be made Feb. 3.
- Feb. 2 pickups will be done Feb. 4.
- Feb. 3 pickups will be made Feb. 6.
- Pickups made during the week starting Feb. 6 will also be delayed by one day.
