Patterson's appointment follows an announcement from Alex Torrez earlier this month that he would be stepping down and a subsequent special meeting held Monday by the PfISD board of trustees at which the board placed Torrez on paid administrative leave.
Patterson's appointment is contingent upon the successful negotiation of employment terms with the district, but Thursday's motion put forth by trustee Rob Reyes, and seconded by interim trustee Paul King, allows the hiring process to move forward. If terms are reached, Patterson will begin working as the interim PfISD superintendent Jan. 2.
Patterson comes to PfISD with more than 38 years of experience in education, 14 of which he served as superintendent for East Central ISD in San Antonio.
