The Pflugerville ISD board of trustees voted to place Superintendent Alex Torrez on paid administrative leave, effective immediately.

alex-torrezThe Board met Monday, Dec. 12, in a special meeting to discuss the resignation of Torrez, who announced in a statement Dec. 7 his intention to step down as superintendent of PfISD at the end of his contract.

After meeting for a little over 1 1/2 hours in closed session, the board reconvened, and trustee Rob Reyes made the motion to place Torrez on paid administrative leave effective immediately; trustee Carol Fletcher seconded, and the motion garnered unanimous approval.

“The Pflugerville ISD board of trustees has acted tonight to transition district leadership. We will be looking to our deputy superintendent to keep our district operations running smoothly in the short term until an interim superintendent is named. We are thankful for the hard work and continued support of Pflugerville ISD school community and look forward to the next chapter,” PfISD board of trustees President Vernagene Mott said.

Superintendent responsibilities now fall to Deputy Superintendent Troy Galow. While no time frame was set by the board during Monday’s special meeting to appoint a replacement for Torrez, there is an agenda item listed for possible action during the board’s regularly scheduled meeting Thursday.
