Pflugerville ISD announced a separation agreement has been reached with Superintendent Alex Torrez. Details of the agreement were not disclosed.

On Dec. 7, Torrez announced he would resign at the end of his contract term, which is in September. On Dec. 12, after 90 minutes of deliberation in closed session, Torrez was placed on paid administrative leave by the district board of trustees.

A joint statement between the district and Torrez said the two “have reached an agreement which allows Dr. Torrez the ability to immediately pursue other interests and permits the board to pursue hiring another superintendent during the upcoming spring hiring season.”

The release continued: “Dr. Torrez thanks the present and past Board of Trustees for providing him with the opportunity to serve in the Pflugerville Independent School District. A school district is measured by the commitment of the board, staff and community to its children and their achievements. This district is indeed so committed. Dr. Torrez would like to express his heartfelt appreciation to the staff and community for its support of the district’s programs and services during his term as superintendent.”

The board of trustees will now begin a search for a new superintendent.
