Prior to Thursday's Hutto City Council meeting, more than 50 police officers gathered in the City Council chambers for the swearing in of their new leader, Chief Byron Frankland.

Frankland was promoted to chief of police after serving more than two decades in the city of Galveston. In 2011, he was promoted to the assistant chief of police there. In his time in Galveston, Frankland served with the Narcotics Task Force, Nightwatch Patrol Division and Major Crimes Division.

Frankland appointed Paul Hall as his assistant chief of police. Hall comes to Hutto with a variety of experience within the military. Most recently, he has served within the Office of the Attorney General as an investigator within the Criminal Investigation Division.

Williamson County Sheriff Robert Chody was also in attendance at the swearing in.

Frankland replaces Earl Morrison, who resigned March 24 after two years of service to the city.
