A national search is underway for the next assistant city manager in Hutto.

Executive search firm Strategic Government Resources will promote and market the position for the city and will assist in refining the pool of potential candidates.

“I’m looking for an assistant city manager who has the experience needed to assist me with duties from implementing organization-wide policies and strategies, to managing Hutto’s tremendous growth,” City Manager Odis Jones said. “I will be looking for someone who is not only a culture fit with this organization, but someone who can drive our strategic plan and execution guide.”

In December, Assistant City Manager Micah Grau left Hutto for the same position at the city of Buda. In January, Jones appointed Melanie Melancon, the city’s finance director and controller, to the position. On Feb. 24, Jones announced Melancon was no longer employed by the city.

The assistant city manager works under the general guidance and direction of the city manager. According to the city, key responsibilities include assisting in planning, coordinating and directing work regarding the Hutto’s budget, assists in economic development and revitalization of downtown and assists with public outreach.
