What residents should know
Southbound traffic on FM 3349 shifted to the new southbound frontage road, and the northbound frontage road narrowed to one lane due to ongoing construction nearby. The changes allow to road work to wrap up safely, and there should be minimal disruptions to travelers, according to the city.
About the project
Williamson County's FM 3349 at Hwy. 79 project will expand FM 3349 and CR 101 from a two-lane undivided road to a four-lane divided roadway, including building bridges over U.S. 79 and the Union Pacific Railroad. The project also includes a new interchange at U.S. 79 and FM 3349/CR 101.
It's part of Williamson County’s longterm transportation plan, and is funded by the 2019 voter-approved road bonds as well as funding from the Texas Department of Transportation.
Some context
Construction on the interim project began in fall 2022 and is expected to open to traffic by summer 2025. The full build-out may be completed in phases over the coming decades, depending on county growth and available funding.
