Williamson County has plans for a CR 138 project to bring improvements to East Wilco Highway along CR 138, between Pflugerville and Hutto. While in the design phase, county residents provided feedback to the county on the road project.
The details
The proposed improvements will affect CR 138 from SH 130 northbound frontage road to east of Derby Day Avenue. Improvements are funded through the 2023 road bond program and include:
- A permanent traffic signal at CR 138 and Derby Day Avenue/Little Lake Road
- Flexible traffic sticks and street lights at CR 138 and Derby Day Avenue/Little Lake Road
- Pedestrian sidewalks on the south side from SH 130 to CR 137
- A dedicated left turn into nearby apartments
- An additional westbound lane beginning west of Dana Drive
Why now?
The county cited safety and mobility needs due to population growth in Pflugerville and Hutto as the motivating factor for the road project. At an open house Nov. 12, the county gave community members an opportunity to provide feedback on the design plans.
Members reviewed the plans and suggested the following:
- Add additional traffic signals along east CR 138
- Add additional lanes to improve east and westbound traffic along CR 138
- Add turn lanes out of neighborhoods and improve existing turn lanes along CR 138
- Share project funding information with the public
- Improve street signage
- Add a noise barrier wall on the south side of CR 138
- Add additional street lighting
What’s next?
Wilco plans to start construction in fall of next year.
