A partnership between Maruti, Uber and the city of Pflugerville will cover a portion of the cost of Uber rides within the city starting in October.

Pflugerville City Council established the details of the program, named Pfetch a Ride, at a Sept. 13 meeting after initially approving a contract in August.

Under the program, Uber riders will pay only the first $4 of a ride within the city, after which the city will cover the next $10. Riders will be responsible for any costs beyond $14.

For a ride to be eligible, it must begin and end within Pflugerville city limits or at the Capital Metro Park & Ride station at Tech Ridge.

Assistant City Manager Emily Barron said additional locations outside city limits, such as Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and St. David's Medical Center, could be added in the future once the city has had time to gather information on the program's ridership.

The program is not limited to Pflugerville residents, but it will only cover up to 10 rides per month from a given Uber account.

Wheelchair-accessible vehicles are available for riders who need them; those riders pay the same $4 fare, but have no monthly voucher limit.

The Pfetch a Ride program is set to begin Oct. 1, replacing the Capital Metro Pickup pilot that will end the same day.
