Basketball courts at Hutto Lake Park, Fritz Park and Hutto Community Park will receive new lighting by this fall.

Hutto City Council approved the $106,200 purchase of lights for the three parks at a May 5 meeting. Funding for the lights comes from the city's parkland development fund, money from developers set aside specifically for parks projects.

Parks Superintendent Jeff White said the need for lighting at the courts originally came to the city's attention in late 2021 via a community petition that received over 600 signatures.

"Light at basketball courts have been a priority for the public, the parks board and even council," White said.

White said the lights will not be on a schedule like streetlights; instead, visitors can turn them on or off as needed.

The city's purchase agreement with Musco Sports Lighting LLC includes replacement parts for the lights for 25 years.

Installation of the lights will likely take place in late summer or early fall, according to White.
