Pflugerville City Council approved an agreement on Oct. 14 to acquire right of way for a project to extend Colorado Sand Drive, with a goal of enhancing traffic flow and improving access to local businesses and neighborhoods.

Long story short

The roadway extension would cut through property owned by a private landowner just outside of city limits, but within Pflugerville’s extraterritorial jurisdiction.

The new agreement allows the city of Pflugerville to acquire roughly 4.3 acres of right of way on behalf of developer NP Lakeside 130, which will also fund the acquisition. Once the roadway is complete, the city of Pflugerville will maintain it as part of the public street network. This comes after the city completed an extension of Colorado Sand Drive in September.

No construction date has been released.

Items worth mentioning

During the Oct. 14 meeting, council members discussed the years-long delay in building the connection because the developer didn’t control all of the land.

City staff said the city would use its eminent domain authority if negotiations with the property owner were to fail.
