The city of Pflugerville is encouraging residents to prepare for potential winter storms this year by winterizing homes and gathering essential supplies.

The overview

The city released tips for how residents can stay prepared for inclement weather this winter season, which include vehicle maintenance, pipe protection, plant preservation and more.

According to Pflugerville’s Emergency Services Division, residents should check vehicle tires and fluids, as well as pack an emergency kit. When inclement weather is anticipated, the city recommends people make plans to check on elderly or disabled neighbors, bring pets indoors and protect pipes by insulating them and opening cabinet doors under sinks to allow warm air to circulate.

Residents can also use clear plastic bags, such as trash liners, to keep plants warm and let sunlight in during the day. Potted plants can be moved indoors or the container can be buried in the ground.

Quote of note

"The winter storms in Central Texas in recent years have really tested our community's resilience. While we are better positioned than we've ever been to handle weather emergencies, it is still so important for families to take their own steps to keep themselves prepared and safe,” Joseph Chacon, director of Pflugerville’s Emergency Services Division, said in a news release. “The City of Pflugerville is a resource for both assistance and information, and we urge our community to take the necessary measures to get through the season safely."
