To honor veterans who have been injured or died in combat, Hutto received the designation of becoming a Purple Heart city, just ahead of Purple Heart Day.

What Happened

City Council officially proclaimed Hutto’s designation at a meeting Aug. 1. The Purple Heart Society and Hutto veterans were present to witness the proclamation.

The designation is intended for the city to express gratitude to Purple Heart recipients and their families, according to city documents.

The Purple Heart medal is a military decoration awarded to armed forces members who have been wounded or died in combat. Purple Heart Day is celebrated on Aug. 7 to honor these veterans.

Georgetown was the first in Texas to become a Purple Heart city. Hutto joins over 80 cities who have received the military order.
