Pflugerville Public Utility Director Brandon Pritchett presented the available options from electrical company SA Smart Solutions to Council, which included a base bid and four alternatives.
“This is a landmark site for the city, and we want to make sure we have all options on the table,” Pritchett said.
City Council approved the base bid with three add-ons, which would include 10 color-changing LED lights around the bowl of the tank and four additional lights on the support rail. The lights can be remotely controlled and will all be pointed up toward the signage.
The lights, each at 50 watts, are expected to last 15 years, according to SA Smart Solutions Managing Partner Andrew Berteaux.
What residents should know
Although no formal meeting to collect community input was held, Pritchett said city staff went door-to-door to collect residents' opinions and received mixed feedback.
“It depends on what everyone wants in their backyard, but the intent is to not be so intrusive,” he said.
The contract to purchase and install the lights will cost $358,457, paid through hotel occupancy tax funds.
