A new "Arts in Public Places" program in Pflugerville will facilitate the addition of public artwork across the city.

Pflugerville City Council approved creation of the program at a March 28 meeting.

Through the program, local artists can submit proposals for art pieces in Pflugerville parks, open spaces and city facilities.

Proposals will undergo review by the library board, the parks and recreation commission or the planning and zoning commission, depending on the piece's proposed location.

Officials said there is no specific theme or subject matter required for proposals, but reviewers will consider how the piece reflects Pflugerville's culture and community.

"I'm really excited," Mayor Pro Tem Doug Weiss said. "Art is supposed to make you feel, and I leave the artistic direction to the artists."
