At a Jan. 3 meeting of the city's planning and zoning commission, commission members reviewed a draft of the plan and voted to recommend that Hutto City Council approve it.
Work on the comprehensive plan began in August 2021 and has involved an array of public engagement, work from several planning firms and a comprehensive plan advisory committee.
Chance Sparks, a representative for planning and consulting firm Freese and Nichols, said one major priority the plan identifies is an emphasis on walkable neighborhoods and trail connectivity.
"Your trails become placemaking opportunities and give people ways to connect and get places," Sparks said.
The plan includes chapters on transportation, land use, parks and economic development as well as a section specifically dedicated to downtown development.
City council will review and discuss the plan at a Jan. 19 meeting before voting to adopt it in February.
