Design work is set to begin on several water and wastewater projects in Hutto following action from Hutto City Council.

At an Oct. 6 meeting, council approved project orders for engineering and design on three different projects.

The first project involves improvements to ultraviolet disinfection equipment at the south wastewater treatment plant. The design agreement for the project totals $276,920, and engineering firm Garver LLC will perform the work.

City documents indicate installation of a permanent UV disinfection system is scheduled to begin in August 2023 and wrap up by the end of the year.

The second project is construction of a new 3 million-gallon ground storage tank at the frame switch pump station on FM 3349. The design agreement is for $532,653, and Freese & Nichols will be the firm to perform the design work.

Construction on the storage tank is anticipated to begin in August 2023.

The third project involves construction of three waterlines along Hwy. 79, CR 132 and FM 3349 that will serve developments at the Megasite. CP&Y Inc. will perform the design work under an order totaling $728,728.

Construction on the water lines would tentatively begin in October 2023 and conclude in January 2024, according to city documents.

Funding for all three projects is included in the city's Wastewater Capital Improvement Project Plan and will largely come from $55 million in certificates of obligation that council approved the issuance of at the same meeting.
