What you need to know
With HISD's eighth elementary school set to open this fall, administrators approved a change to school attendance zones, with much of the new elementary school being located in the former attendance zone of Hutto Elementary School.
In December, Dustin Barton, HISD's assistant superintendent of operations, said the rezoning allows the district to rebalance attendance across all of its elementary schools, relieving any capacity issues.
The details
Lee Martinez students will be included in the Hutto Middle School feeder pattern, and the attendance zone for LMES is concentrated in the district's northeast area.
Barton said the rezoning also shifts boundaries for Ray Elementary and Nadine Johnson Elementary.
What else?
The rezoning includes similar policy along the lines of those implemented for the middle school attendance boundary adjustment that the district completed last year when it comes to rising fourth graders and their siblings in Pre-K through third grade.
This policy will allow rising fourth graders to apply to remain at their current school, as well as Pre-K through third grade students who have siblings already enrolled in an elementary school, through its existing transfer process.
Parents will be responsible for transporting students who remain at their current campuses.
Barton said the district will communicate with families regarding the rezoning starting in February.
