Two calendar drafts for the 2025-26 school year are under consideration by the Pflugerville ISD board of trustees.

The board heard the first reading of draft 1 and draft 2 of the calendars during its regular meeting Jan. 16.

Some context

Per the district's January administration report, the PfISD District Academic Advisory Council collaborated to create the two drafts. Key considerations for the calendars included:
  • Adhering to the state requirement of at least 75,600 instructional minutes
  • Including 187 teacher contract days and two bad weather days
  • Aligning spring break with the University of Texas at Austin and Austin Community College
A closer look

Both drafts list Nov. 24-28 as Thanksgiving break and March 16-20 as spring break.


Other shared holidays include Sept. 1 for Labor Day, Jan. 19 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Feb. 16 for Presidents' Day and May 25 for Memorial Day.

Key differences between the two drafts include:
  • Meet the teacher: Aug. 11 (draft 1), Aug. 12 (draft 2)
  • First day of school: Aug. 13 (draft 1), Aug. 14 (draft 2)
  • Indigenous Peoples' Day: Oct. 13 (draft 1), Oct. 10 (draft 2)
  • Diwali: Oct. 20 (draft 1), Oct. 13 (draft 2)
  • Winter break: Dec. 22-Jan. 5 (draft 1), Dec. 22-Jan. 7 (draft 2)
  • Easter break: April 3 (draft 1), April 3 and 6 (draft 2)
  • Last day of school: May 21 (draft 1), May 28 (draft 2)
  • Bad weather make up days: Oct. 20, Jan. 19 (draft 1), April 3 and 6 (draft 2)
Draft 1 has a total of 173.5 instructional days, while draft 2 has 171.5.
