Several campuses in Hutto ISD will receive updates, after trustees approved five bond-funded contracts in December.

Hutto ISD trustees approved contracts for five capital improvement projects Dec. 12, ranging from new playground equipment to a consultation for roof repairs.

The projects total about $1.9 million, and are funded through a combination of 2019 and 2023 bond monies, as well as a Texas Education Agency Safety and Facility Enhancement grant.

Dustin Barton, HISD's assistant superintendent of operations, told trustees that the proposed projects would help address strategic priorities at campuses across the district.

Roof consultant for Farley Middle School and Veterans Hill Elementary School roof replacements

  • The details: This project will allow Armko to determine what kind of roof replacement would be most appropriate for these campuses, Barton said.
Installation of artificial turf at elementary school playgrounds

  • The details: Barton said this will allow students a place to play during recess that is safe and accessible.
Communication enhancement systems at Howard Norman Elementary School and Ray Elementary School

  • The details: This project will enhance radio signal for first responders inside the school facilities, Barton said.
Renovation of the playground at Nadine Johnson Elementary School
  • Cost: $478,783

  • Funding source: 2019 bond funds
  • The details: Students were able to help the district select age-appropriate playground equipment for this replacement, Barton said.
Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning unit replacements at Nadine Johnson Elementary School

  • The details: This will replace HVAC units that were installed prior to 2021, Barton said.
