The hearing will take place Aug. 15 at 6:30 p.m. at the Pflugerville ISD Administration Building.
Two-minute impact
PfISD’s fiscal year begins Sept. 1 and ends Aug. 31.
During an April 19 board meeting, the projected 2024-25 budget shortfall was just under $7 million. According to Chief Financial Officer Jennifer Land, this number could change by the August meeting as “the budget is fluid; not static.”
The trustees also approved a 2% general pay increase and minimum wage of $17 an hour during the April 19 meeting, which will be factored into the budget.
Per agenda documents, due to budget posting deadlines, it is possible that the district's required tax rate notices could be published before the Texas Education Agency calculates the official maximum compressed rate in early August.
If this rate is not received prior to the posting deadline, the 2023-24 tax rate—$1.1092, which is comprised of a Maintenance and Operations rate of $0.7892 and an Interest and Sinking rate of $0.32—will be proposed, but not yet adopted.
Agenda documents state that should there be significant growth in the district’s taxable property values, taxpayers can expect a lower rate to be adopted. If the tax rate proposed for adoption is lower than the rate that was published, a revised posting will not be required.
