The Pflugerville ISD board of trustees unanimously named Dr. Quintin Shepherd as the lone finalist for the district’s superintendent search during its board workshop meeting April 4.

Shepherd has served as superintendent of Victoria ISD since 2018. Per Texas law, the board will observe a 21-day waiting period before officially hiring Shepherd.

How we got here

The search for a new superintendent began last year after the trustees unanimously accepted the resignation of former superintendent Dr. Douglas Killian during a Dec. 14 board meeting. Killian served as superintendent for six years.

Former PfISD Assistant Superintendent Dr. Steve Flores was then named as interim superintendent.

Shepherd's selection follows a survey focus groups conducted in February, in which community members provided feedback to aid the board in its search.

One more thing

Per a district news release, Shepherd plans to embark on a 100-day listening and learning tour around the district called "Discovering Pflugerville," which will include meetings with community members, parents, administration, campus leadership, teachers, staff and students.

Quote of note

“Pflugerville is at a turning point,” said Chevonne Lorigo-Johst, Place 7 PfISD board trustee. “We may have a state Legislature that is working against us, but we are stronger. I’m really excited about the innovation that will come with this new superintendent. ... We took [the search] very seriously; this is the most important thing we do as a trustee.”
