A recent demographic report from Zonda Education shows Hutto ISD will see its student population grow by more than 5,000 children in the next 10 years.

The big picture

The demographic report shows HISD's total enrollment is projected to grow from 10,053 students in the 2023-24 school year to 15,482 by the 2033-34 academic year. Henry Gideon, HISD's assistant superintendent of operations, said the projections have slowed only slightly from previous years due to heightened interest rates.

"We're going to continue to grow, guys," Gideon said. "[Trustee] Mr. [James] Matlock and I were talking earlier, and we're looking at lower interest rates. Come spring, I would think that maybe home purchasing will will rebound a little bit. Unlike a lot of districts in Central Texas, Hutto is continuing to grow."

The details

The report also estimates around 1,700 new homes will be constructed each year for the next two to three years, driving growth in HISD. In the 2023-24 school year alone, the district added 360 new students, the report states.
