Hutto ISD trustees on Dec. 14 set a maximum price for the third phase of a project to renovate and expand Hutto High School.

What you need to know

Trustees voted by consent to set a maximum price of $19.01 million with Chaney Cox Construction Inc. for the third phase of the project, as well as schematics for the fourth phase of the project.

In December 2022, the board approved a $17.02 million guaranteed maximum price agreement for Phase 2 of the project, encompassing the bulk of the actual improvements to the school. Trustees previously approved a $2.72 million guaranteed maximum price for Phase 1, which includes preliminary work, such as replacing fire alarms and clocks.

The modernization project is funded by a 2019 bond.

The details

The new schematics for Phase 4 show what new athletic, fine arts, agriculture and automotive facilities on the campus's north side could look like. Pfluger Architects Senior Project Manager Garrett Martin said the outer facade of the entrance to the new competition court and fine arts wing would also function as a main entry point for students with direct access to the student lot, and mimics the architecture seen in Hutto's downtown.

Included in plans for Phase 4 are:
  • Boys and girls locker rooms with separate varsity locker rooms
  • A 2,160-seat competition gym
  • An eight-bay auto shop facility
  • Agriculture sciences and welding facilities
HISD Assistant Superintendent of Operations Henry Gideon said the timeline to complete the overall modernization of the school will take at least two more years to complete.
