Pflugerville ISD will soon begin the search for a new superintendent after Superintendent Doug Killian was selected as the lone finalist in Cy-Fair ISD's superintendent search.

What's happening?

Killian was named as the lone finalist in Cy-Fair ISD's search for a new superintendent. Pending a mandatory 21-day waiting period and a vote on his hiring by the school board, he said he expects to join the district sometime in early 2024 in a letter shared with district staff Nov. 13.

"I am confident that Pflugerville ISD is in capable hands with our current district leadership members and board members," the letter reads. "Their commitment to the district's success and their tireless efforts have been, and will continue to be, the driving force behind our achievements. The foundation we've built together is strong, and I have no doubt that the district will flourish under their continued guidance."

The backstory

Killian was hired in 2017 and saw the district through the COVID-19 pandemic. Previously, he served as the superintendent of Hutto ISD.

Killian received his doctorate in educational administration from Texas A&M University, his master’s degree in educational administration from Texas A&M International University, and his bachelor’s degree in political science and history from Southwest Texas State University—now Texas State University.

What's next?

In the letter, Killian also said the board will initiate its own search and engage a search firm to identify a suitable candidate to fill his position, although it is not stated when that might happen.

"In the interim, our board of trustees will initiate the search for the next superintendent, collaborating with a search firm to identify a leader who will build upon the incredible work we've accomplished together over the past few years," Killian wrote. "During the transitional period, the board will likely appoint an interim superintendent to provide steady leadership and ensure the continuity of our shared goals. This individual will work collaboratively with you, the dedicated staff, to maintain the momentum and positive trajectory we have established."
