The gist: Hutto ISD officials adopted the 2023-24 district budget at a June 20 meeting.

The district had a deadline of June 30 to adopt the budget, which stands at $110.08 million in total projected revenue and $116.18 million in total projected expenditures for HISD.

District staff said some of the drivers of the planned budget shortfall include:
  • The projected average daily attendance is down from 96% for the 2022-23 school year, and because that figure is tied to state financial aid, the FY 2023-24 revenue estimation for HISD is down about $3 million.
  • The state will reclaim about $1.1 million in recapture, or the amount reclaimed from Texas public school districts based on revenue collected that is over a district's entitlement.
Other data: HISD staff broke down the main costs of the district's projected expenditures for the 2023-24 school year.
  • Instruction costs: 63.35%
  • Support services: 12.32%
  • Student services: 11.73%
  • Instructional and school leadership: 6.06%
  • General administration: 3.96%
  • Other: 2.59%
Coming up: Hutto ISD will officially approve its 2023-24 tax rate later in the summer. As of now district staff said they are looking at a rate of $1.3057, which is almost $0.09 lower than the FY 2022-23 rate of $1.3929.
