The district board of trustees approved a compensation plan for the 2023-24 school year at a May 24 meeting.
The plan includes 3% raises for all pay groups and adjusts pay scales for teachers and staff to align more closely with market standards.
Chief Financial Officer Glenn Graham said between the 3% raise and the pay scale adjustments, most teachers will see a pay increase of approximately 3.5%, and support staff will see an increase closer to 6%.
The changes are expected to add $2.9 million in payroll costs to the district's 2023-24 budget, up 4.3% from this school year's expenses.
Trustees also considered a 4% option—the same as the previous school year's pay increase—but Graham recommended the district opt for 3% due to budget uncertainties.
The 4% pay increase would have added $3.6 million in payroll costs, according to a district presentation.
"I doesn't seem like the Legislature ... is going to help," Graham said. "I know we're going to realize a deficit this year."
Graham said if an increase to the basic allotment is passed before the end of the legislative session, the district could consider adopting a 4% increase instead.
