Correction: A previous version of this story listed Feb. 20 as a makeup day for Hutto ISD. The correct dates are March 10 and April 7.

Hutto ISD will hold classes March 10 and April 7 to make up instructional time lost because of winter weather-related closures in early February.

The Hutto ISD board of trustees voted at a Feb. 9 meeting to add the days—which were previously student holidays—as instructional days.

The district was closed for four days during the freeze, but only needs to make up two days since Texas school districts are allowed two bad weather days per school year.

Associate Superintendent for Instruction and Innovation Robert Sormani said another option for making up the lost instructional time would be adding a few minutes to each day for the rest of the school year, but recommended the district add the days instead.

"I think adding the day back is [better], simply because if I add 5-10 minutes to every single day the rest of the year, it's not really adding back a whole day of instruction," Sormani said.
