The Hutto ISD board of trustees approved an item calling the election at a Jan. 26 meeting.
As approved, the bond package includes the full $482 million recommendation from the district's long-range facilities planning committee as well as another $40 million recommended by district administrators for improvements to the district academic center.
The administration's other recommendations—$70 million for a new performing arts center and $45 million for teacher housing—did not make it into the package.
The approved items are split into three propositions. Proposition A totals $471.5 million and contains the bulk of the committee's recommendations, including two new elementary schools and build-out of the Ninth Grade Center into a comprehensive high school.
At $10.5 million, Proposition B is for instructional technology. Proposition C is for the $40 million academic center improvements.
District officials said Proposition A in particular will be vital to helping the district keep up with its growing enrollment. According to a district release, Hutto ISD's current enrollment is around 9,750 students and is expected to reach 17,000 by 2032.
"The school is not set up to have that many kids present at the same time," Associate Superintendent for Instruction and Innovation Robert Sormani said.
Election day is May 6. Early voting will begin April 24.
