Hutto ISD employees will continue to have paid COVID-19 leave this school year following action from the district's board of trustees.

At an Aug. 11 meeting, the Hutto ISD board of trustees approved a resolution granting up to five days of COVID-19 leave for teachers and staff through June 20, 2023.

Employees qualify for leave if they or an immediate family member test positive for COVID-19 and can provide a lab-certified test.

The five-day period is consistent with the Texas Education Agency's isolation guidelines for teachers and students who test positive for COVID-19.

"In recognition of [TEA guidance] and the fact that we're going to be back in crowded classrooms and crowded surroundings, we felt that it would be a great support for our staff if they knew they could still have access to COVID[-19] leave," Superintendent Celina Estrada Thomas said.
