On Feb. 5, officials held a groundbreaking ceremony for Texas State Technical College’s expansion of the East Williamson County campus in Hutto, which is expected to open by spring 2027.

What you need to know

According to a news release, the new 70,000-square-foot facility will house three programs, including:
  • Advancement manufacturing technology-semiconductor
  • Industrial systems
  • Precision machining technology
The project will cost $47 million, TSTC Communication Specialist Kate Altier said.

Zooming out

TSTC’s East Williamson County campus is part of a multi-institutional teaching center called the East Williamson County Higher Education Center—a 112,000-square-foot facility that sits on 57 acres, according to the college’s website.

In the future, officials intend to expand further on 80 acres north of the site that TSTC owns, TSTC Chancellor and CEO Mike Reeser said.

“TSTC is the on ramp, not the final destination,” Reeser said. “We couldn’t be prouder to be a partner of economic development in this whole region in that spirit.”

How we got here

The TSTC was allocated funding for seven campus expansion projects through the Capital Construction Assistance Projects under Senate Bill 52 during the 87th Texas Legislative Session in 2021, per the release. The TSTC received about $200 million from the program, according to previous Community Impact reporting.

“This 70,000-square-foot advanced manufacturing center was made possible because the Texas Legislature invested in TSTC and Williamson County,” Reeser said.

State Rep. Caroline Harris Davila, R-Round Rock, said she grew up five minutes away from where the campus is now.

“We're growing, and we need that workforce,” Harris Davila said. “We want to supply that workforce—we want that in Williamson County.”

One more thing

Construction for the expansion will begin in the next few months, a TSCT spokesperson said.
