A 77.9-acre plot of land on Ed Schmidt Boulevard in Hutto could soon be annexed into the city.

Hutto City Council will consider annexing the land and zoning it for multifamily use at a May 18 meeting.

The land, known as the Alta Ed Schmidt tract, is located across Ed Schmidt Boulevard from the entrance to the Emory Crossing subdivision.

Information is not yet available on a proposed project at the site, but multifamily zoning allows for projects like apartments, townhomes and assisted-living facilities.

Annexation of the Alta Ed Schmidt tract appeared alongside several other annexations at council's April 6 meeting, but the item was postponed.

Council will hold a public hearing on the annexation prior to voting.
